Seafood and Melaque go hand in hand

Mexico Vacations Melaque Mexico

People are usually amazed at the variety of food they can find in Melaque, Mexico during their vacation.  Did you know that yellow cheese is NEVER found in true Mexican food?  Until I started living in Mexico, many years ago, I thought Tex-Mex was the ultimate in authentic Mexican food.

Beautiful and quiet at El Palmar

Mexico Vacations, Melaque hotel

Summer on the Pacific coast of Mexico has arrived!  It's warm but has not started raining yet.  May and June are some wonderful months to be in Melaque, hardly any tourists, the pace is very laid back and the beach is practically deserted.

Albergue in Pinal Villa gets a New Mural

Edward Gilliam

Our good friend Edward Gillam donated a mural a few years back to the Albergue in Pinal Villa.  The Albergue is a project we built to provide basic education and medical services for migrant workers who come to Melaque and the Pacfic coast of Mexico each year to work.

The mural was a lovely piece of art but the hot Mexican sun and summer rains had their way with the work and after a very short time large pieces began to flake off.

It's Market Day in Melaque

Mexico Vacations

Every Wednesday the tianguis, or market, comes to Melaque. During the winter months it grows to nearly double the size it is in the summer! You'll find fresh fruits and vegetables, used clothes, shoes, DVD's, hand crafted artisan pottery, mirrors, jewelry and more. It’s a great place to find kitchen gadgets and usually things like tools, as well as the perfect gift to return north.

What's for Breakfast?

Mexico Vacations

Melaque, Mexico is a paradise for the connoisseur with a varied range of foods, even restaurateurs are happy with the many choices of cuisine on offer. Of course we love our local taco and posole stands but you can also find Italian, Continental, and Japanese! Every year we see new additions to the eating scene. For our Canadian guests wanting their home baked bread, scrumptious cinnamon buns, and bacon cooked to perfection, “Lynn's Sunrise Cafe and Bakery” is the place to go.

The Quinceañera

Mexico Vacations

Rosie and I attended the Quinceañera of our niece a while ago.  It was a very traditional Quinceañera, church service, a beautiful dress, young men as attendants, a big meal and lots of dancing. Tradition holds that when a young girl turns 15, she goes from childhood to womanhood. I would argue that the Quinceañera is a bigger celebration than a wedding. It is a milestone in a young woman’s life that is marked with great ceremony. In many smaller villages the entire town is in attendance for the party.
