Feliz Dia del Niño

April 30th is Dia del Niño in Mexico and here in Melaque, and like all over the country, there will be events and activities for children. On Children's Day, the main focus is on the children and making them feel special. This holiday has been a big deal in Mexico with parties, piñatas, outings, and gifts since it’s 1925 inception!

This year Dia del Niño and Mexican Labor Day have been combined on the school calendar so we are celebrating with a 4 day weekend!  Melaque is full of  tourists enjoying a Mexican family vacation and families have been filling up the beachside tables all weekend long. 

Tonight we will probably be treated to fireworks hosted by the church- the Padre loves his fireworks and what better occasion to fire some off? 

The day is being celebrated here in Pinal Villa for the Mixteca children at the Alberque. Games, gifts, and a meal, for the children who would normally be working in the fields for the day. Children's Day is just one of the many celebrations and events that take place throughout the year.
